LIVE UNITED

Unity is really the goal of every race, religion and every people. So, how do unite all people building upon the golden thread we all share?

I believe it must start at the street or local level. What we are doing here in Virginia is utilizing a small bag with a light within to create unity in our neighborhoods while neighborhood organizations raise money for charity. We are spreading a luminary event throughout out streets, neighborhoods, counties, and cities.

What do you do to create unity on your street? If you do not have anything to bring all of your neighbors together in the spirit of unity, then consider adopting Share Your Light Night each December (or other date that works good for your neighborhood).

It's easy. Talk to your neighbors about the event, share pictures (they can be emailed to you), use the contact information on the website (www.shareyourlightnight.blogspot.com) or coordinate the event with your local United Way. Let them know you want to raise funds for their cause. They will help you from there.

Brenda this is a great idea and I agree with you that unity begins at street level. I started an organization to bring women together, all women. I am trying to build strength in women through connection and education so they will rebuild families and their communities. It is working and I am so thankful for that, I will bring up the shareyourlightnight in Cincinnati and Fairfield Ohio area and see what type of response I can get. I also believe when people get involved in the lives of others they begin to reverse their destinies as well. I will visit your blogspot to obtain more information and thank you for sharing, I will let you know how it turns out.

Just a quick hello -- thanks for this. Your message caught my eye, because it's on this theme of "unity" -- which I feel is so important in the world and in the USA today. The United Way campaign "Live United" is a kind of broad inspiration for the entire USA, I think -- maybe I will start a discussion here on that theme. Here in the USA, given our current political tone -- I feel we need to inspire the birth of a movement that pulls people together -- while respecting their (our) differences.

I am a web systems developer -- and it's interesting, Debra, that you have created an organization to "bring all women together". The network Gather the Women (http://gatherthewomen.org) runs on my server, and I have worked with many women's organizations aiming for this sort of broad unity.
