The purpose of the Emergency Volunteer Center is to provide a centralized clearinghouse to coordinate community needs and large influxes of spontaneous volunteers to increase the ability to respond to and recover from disasters.
During the course of the training, volunteers will learn the basic functions of the Emergency Volunteer Center. This is comprised of two models, a Call Center and a Mobilized Center, each of which has specific staffed positions that facilitate the process of spontaneous volunteer management. There are a maximum of eight positions that will need to be filled by trained disaster volunteers, some of which include Volunteer Needs Call Intake, Volunteer Intake and Screening, Volunteer Matching, Safety Briefing, and Staff Training.
The training sessions will be held from 9:00am-12:00pm on Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24. Participants will only need to attend one day to be qualified as an affiliated Disaster Volunteer. Upon completion of the training, Disaster Volunteers will have a one year commitment to volunteer if a disaster strikes Johnson County. After that year, the Disaster Volunteer has the option to commit for another year.
